Using the Internet

The Internet is a huge network connecting computers from around the globe. Information is distributed through the Internet in a variety of forms. Email, instant messaging, and Web pages all involve using the Internet to exchange information. The World Wide Web is part of the Internet. The World Wide Web uses the Internet to support information sharing through a type of language called hypertext transfer protocol or HTTP. There are other protocols such as SMTP for email or FTP for file transfers, which all involve the support of the Internet.
